Research: Target Audience

Before I begin designing my student/college magazine I need to research and find out what the audience want the magazine to look like and what content they want in the magazine.

1. How much would you be willing to pay for a student/college magazine?

  • Everyone that I asked suggested that the magazine should be free.
2. Would you prefer bright colours or pale colours for the colour scheme?

  • Everyone suggested that bright colours would be better than paler ones because the brighter colours would stand out.
3. Would you prefer the magazine to use informal language, or formal language?

  • They would prefer informal language.
4.What images/photographs would you like to see?

  • Photographs of students and the college. Also any photographs/image that relate to any of the content (films, artists, events).

Initial Ideas For Student Magazine

House Style
I think the background of my magazine will be black, and I will use bright images and bold colours to help make the magazine stand out.

Mode Of Address
The mode of address will be informal, chatty and direct to aim more towards my target audience (students).

Central Image
The central image will be the entire background of the cover. On top of the central image there will be a splash, the headline (top left hand corner) and some cover lines. The central image will be a photograph of students to help engage the target audience.

Content
The content will include information like any local job offers, university information, polls, and any advice. The magazine will also include film reviews, music, festivals, vouchers, any events that might/will interest the students.

Fonts
The font will be clear, easy to read and informal.

Masthead
For the masthead I would want it to be bold and bigger than the over font on the page (to make the masthead stand out). The colours would be bright and the colour maybe either red or a blue.
